How to help an older dog overweight works better?

We have given him one of my friends years ago, unfortunately they leave be overweight. We have tried to exercise but she was too weak and would not eat diet foods. It is a mixture Golden retreiver lab / and is now 15. I know his last years and we had the chance very well w / our dogs have to last long. (My lab last lived until he was 18!) She loves to walk, but has difficulty getting out of the ground because of its hind legs. As her belly made his return, I know. I want to make their walks a little better.
